These developer pages document how to use Newbound's API to empower your applications with the Newbound protocol. All of our documentation is contained in Newbound's Documentation app (which is available via the MetaBot) and we would <3 corrections and improvements!
Our software is written in Java, but that doesn't mean you have to have a Java project in order to use it! The MetaBot app allows you to write your code in Python or Java, and the HTTP API allows you to integrate with literally everything else. However, if you do integrate it into a Java project you will be pleased to know that there are no external third-party libraries to cause headaches for you!
The software will run "as is" on any JDK-capable operating system, so Windows, Mac and Linux are fully compatible. Android apps are also written in Java, so including the Newbound software in your project is as simple as dropping the code into your project. You can easily include the Newbound software in an iOS project by using the Multi-OS Engine. For obvious reasons, the dynamic compiling capabilities of the Newbound software will not work on iOS or Android. Similarly, MetaBot commands written in Python will not work on iOS or Android but anything written in Java should be fine.
Our software is designed to be as flexible and minimally intrusive to your project as possible. It comes in the form of an "Executable Source Archive", which is just a fancy way of saying it comes with a script that compiles the code for your platform and then executes it. There's an awful lot crammed into that tiny little source archive, which is why we've made it Toaster Simple™ to use as little or as much of it as you like.
Security / Encryption
NoSQL Data Storage
The software is written in Java and employs a "Compiling Classloader", so if you edit the code you will immediately see your changes on launch. Also, if you drop ".java" files in the right places you can dynamically compile and execute them at runtime. The full functionality of the Newbound protocol is implemented in the form of four core Apps, which work in concert to provide a web server, an app container, a peer-to-peer communications layer, a NoSQL database, dynamic Java and Python code injection/invocation, robust thread-handling, comprehensive security settings and encryption.
Immediate solutions, unlimited potential
Our goal is to be the fastest and easiest way to get a web interface on a device and communicate with other devices. We don't try to limit what you can do or protect you from yourself. We mainly try to stay out of your way and enable you to focus on the core of your project by handling all that frameworky stuff for you.
We really appreciate you taking the time to look into the Newbound protocol and we hope you love it as much as we do. We're a small, but growing team here at Newbound, and we're committed to making your experience integrating the Newbound protocol as fun as possible. Any and all feedback is most certainly appreciated!
